Privacy Policy
VoltVPN is a Chrome extension that sends your browser traffic through a relay so websites see the relay's IP address instead of yours. This page explains what that means for your data, what we store, and what we don't.
Where your traffic goes
When VoltVPN is on, Chrome sends your web traffic through the relay you pick. Other apps on your computer are not affected.
- Free relays are run by other people. They are public proxies that VoltVPN does not own or control. We test them every 30 minutes and drop any that fail or tamper with encrypted connections, but the people running them can see which websites you connect to.
- HTTPS stays encrypted. On sites that use HTTPS (most sites, including banks and email), a relay sees only the site's name, not the pages or anything you type. On plain
http://sites, a relay can see and change what is sent. Don't use plain HTTP sites for anything sensitive while connected. - The Pro private relay is run by us in Frankfurt, Germany. It checks your Pro login with our website and does not record which sites you visit. With Double Hop, it passes your traffic to a free relay in the country you choose; that relay sees our server's IP, not yours.
The extension never sends your browsing history to us.
What we store about you
You can use the free relays without an account. If you sign in, we store:
- your email address and Google account ID (from Google sign-in);
- your plan, its status and end date, and whether it was paid or given to you by us;
- your Stripe customer ID, if you buy Pro;
- a random login for the private relay, created when you get Pro;
- the date you signed up.
Card details are handled by Stripe and never reach us. We use one cookie to keep you signed in. The website has no analytics or advertising trackers. Like most websites, our server keeps standard access logs (IP address, time and page requested) for up to 14 days to keep the service running and secure.
What the extension keeps on your device
Your settings, chosen location, the current relay list, any custom relays you add and your plan are saved in Chrome's extension storage on your device. They are removed when you uninstall the extension.
Network requests the extension makes
Requests to our own website always go directly, not through a relay, so the extension can still check your plan when a relay is down. They show our server your real IP address.
- voltvpn.schoolbros.uk/api/servers to download the list of working relays. No personal data is sent.
- voltvpn.schoolbros.uk/api/account to check your plan. Chrome sends your VoltVPN sign-in cookie with it.
- 1.1.1.1/cdn-cgi/trace (Cloudflare), through the relay, about once a minute while connected, to check the relay still works and which country it exits from.
- Cloudflare test addresses (such as one.one.one.one and 1.0.0.1), through each relay, when you connect, to find which relays answer fastest from your connection.
- ipwho.is, when you open the popup, to show the IP address and location websites currently see.
How we use it
We use your data only to run VoltVPN: to sign you in, give you the features of your plan, check your private relay login and handle billing. We don't sell or rent your data, use it for advertising, or share it with anyone except Stripe for payments and as required by law.
The use of information received by the VoltVPN extension adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Deleting your data
Email [email protected] from the address you signed in with and we will delete your account within 30 days. Stripe may keep payment records for as long as the law requires. To remove what the extension stored on your device, uninstall it.
Children
VoltVPN is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Questions: [email protected].
